Every other gift on the registry could have come from anyone.

The person who buys this isn’t the couple. It’s the best man, the maid of honour, a sister or a parent: someone under pressure to give something meaningful who already knows the photo frame is a failure.

It started with one book made by hand for one couple: questions asked of each of them separately, answers set side by side, and plates like “who survives the zombie apocalypse?” It was the present people remembered. The question was whether that could be made for anyone without losing what made it personal.

Not a book. A way to be the person who gave the best present.

They answer apart. They read it together.

The giver commissions a book. Over a few quiet weeks, each partner gets the same questions by email, separately, with gentle reminders, so neither sees what the other said. Their answers become illustrated double-page spreads, set side by side.

  • AI that edits, not inventsClaude curates and lightly polishes each spread, then a faithfulness check catches any detail the couple didn’t actually say.
  • Faces that stay the sameA written character sheet keeps each person recognisable across every illustration in the book.
  • A person approves every pageNothing goes into a book until a human has signed off the spread. The giver sees a proof and can ask for a picture to be redrawn.
  • More than weddingsEditions for parents, milestones, teams and guest books, plus a gift certificate for when the wedding is this weekend.

Agents overnight, guard rails all day.

The first commit landed in mid-August 2026, and overnight agent lanes have worked the backlog since. Because the product handles people’s love stories and photographs, most of the engineering went into making sure nothing private leaks and nothing is sent by accident.

  • One door for outgoing email. A single module is the only code allowed to send anything, and sending is off by default until it is deliberately switched on.
  • Photos treated as sensitive. Location data is stripped from uploads, photographs of people are encrypted at rest, and face detection only counts faces; it never stores what a face looks like.
  • One renderer. The proof the giver approves and the print file come from the same code, so what you approve is what gets printed.
  • The whole product runs on a laptop with the people replaced. Email lands in a browsable outbox, a pretend checkout signs its own payment events, and the calendar can be moved forward, so a book can be made, read and judged end to end without a real inbox or card.
  • Over 1,600 tests, a self-run security audit, and an independent review of the overnight work whose findings were fixed and tested before going further.

Trust is the product.

The whole flow works end to end in rehearsal, from order to proof to print-ready file. The storefront is live as a preview, with orders closed until payments, email and the illustration pipeline are proven on live settings. The lessons are the useful part.

  • The buyer never sees most of the value. The giver pays; the couple do the writing. So every step has to reassure someone who isn’t in the room.
  • Faithful beats beautiful.A lovely sentence the couple didn’t say is worse than a plain one they did.
  • Deadlines are real.Weddings don’t move. The gift certificate exists because the usual few weeks of questions don’t fit a wedding that’s on Saturday.
  • Privacy is a feature you can feel.People share more when they trust where it goes.

A preview, not open yet.

The Story Between Us is live at storybetweenus.com as a preview: the whole storefront is there to look at, but orders and gift certificates stay closed, and every form says so before anyone types a word. They open once live payments, email and illustration have each passed a controlled test, and the terms have had a final review.

Every edition, in print.

Next: those live checks, opening orders, a first printed copy as a quality check, finishing the milestone, journal and group editions, automatic reminders for every edition, and a bot check on every public form.

Give the best present

Have a look at the storefront now. Orders, and gift certificates for when the wedding is this weekend, open soon.
